International Women's Day

With Kokopelli we present you every year an excellent line-up that contains diversity. In the context of International Women's Day, we would like to introduce Gato Preto to you. Gato Preto is a duo with roots in Mozambique, Ghana and Portugal. Singer Gata Misteriosa grew up in the Portuguese club- and nightlife and will take care of a post-apocalyptic whirlpool of sweaty beats and explosive punkattitude at Kokopelli World Festival 2018.

In addition, we also support Lioness, a new event in kortrijk that gives upcoming female talent from different art a stage this saturday.

The new programming: Global Sounds?!

‘The New Programming: Global Sounds?!’  This was the name of a new network- and information event about festival programming on sunday 14th of Januari in the AB (Ancienne Belgique). Kokopelli sent some of our line-up responsibles to this event, so we can keep up with the latest trends and news in the festival world.

The title of the event covers a lot, so here is a small summary of the topics that where discussed:

  • ‘The New Programming’: In search of diversity, interraciality, transgender-issues, more women on stage, connections with cities, new collaborationplatforms, participation and global sounds.
  • Global Sounds: another hip and trendy slogan, or the key to attract a more divers public? What are Global Sounds? And does a African band attracts an African public by default? P
  • alweer een modewoord of nét de sleutel om een diverser publiek aan te trekken? En wat zijn Global Sounds eigenlijk? En trekt een Afrikaanse band per definitie een Afrikaans publiek? Programmers wrestle with these issues and sometimes make radical choises or lose course.  For those who open the gate, it is an adventurous trip. By trial and error. It is an introduction to new actors in the field, new partners and a search for new audiences.

Keynotes are also a habit on informationdays, this one was given by Kurt Overbergh (Artistic Director AB). Mr. Overbergh explained his artistic voyage of discovery, the new artistic course that the AB is sailing in recent years and the obstacles that he encounters.

In addition, there was also time to make contact with colleagues and to exchange experiences and information.

More information about the information day can be found on the AB website:
